Application Essay Questions
Application Essay Questions I joined no clubs in primary school, instead preferring isolation. It took six years of tongue twisters and complicated mouth contortions in special education classes for me to produce the forty-four sounds of the English language. Your paper will be written by trained writers with extensive expertise. Most of them hold Bachelor's degrees, many â" Master's and Ph.D. degrees. Being part of the rock climbing community has helped me develop my social skills. I donât have an answer to what exactly it is I want to do for the rest of my life. When seniors began to ask me for advice and teachers recruited me to teach underclassmen, I discovered not only that I had been heard, but that others wanted to listen. At heart, I am still reserved , but in finding my voice, I found a strength I could only dream of when I stood in silence so many years ago. I was born with a speech impediment that weakened my mouth muscles. I tried my best to blend in and give the impression I was silent by choice. And when I do have an answer, I will go forth with the knowledge Iâve gathered from each of my varied interests; and I will never stop learning. And when asked what to eat exclusively for the rest of my life, I will enthusiastically respond âpotatoes! Day by day, I began to stand a little taller and talk a little louder both inside and outside of debate. In a few months, my blood no longer froze when I was called on in class. I found I could finally look other people in the eyes when I talked to them without feeling embarrassed. Conventional academic assistance is something you can always get here. And it matters a lot since you are likely to do it regularly. My posture straightened and I stopped fidgeting around strangers. I began to voice my opinions as opposed to keeping my ideas to myself. As my debate rank increased from the triple to single-digits, so too did my standing at school. I began interacting with my teachers more and leading my peers in clubs. In discussions, I put forward my ideas with every bit as much conviction as my classmates. I love English and political science, but I have yet to find such an all-encompassing response as potatoes. What Iâve realized though, is that I donât have to sacrifice all for one. From each of my interests I learn things that contribute to who I am and shape how I see the world. Scanning the school club packet, I searched for my place. But then, I sat in on a debate team practice and was instantly hooked. I was captivated by how confidently the debaters spoke and how easily they commanded attention. I was sick of how confining my quiet nature had become. For better or for worse, I decided to finally make my voice heard. If you think your paper is not without shortcomings, we will redress them promptly or give your money back. Writing about how great you were at chess growing up and recounting your consistent tournament successes might show that you are really good at chess. But real dedication is proven through failure and perseverance. We ask applicants to answer several short questions , and to write a short essay on each of the three topics below. For example, you may want to go to a program in a particular location because it is a place that you know very well and have ties to, or because there is a need in your field there. Again, doing research on the program may reveal ways to legitimate even your most superficial and selfish reasons for applying. This handout will help you write and revise the personal statement required by many graduate programs, internships, and special academic programs. Unless otherwise specified, use 1.5 or double spacing for your essay, format it with a one-inch margin all around and clearly delineate your paragraphs using a single space tab. Be sure to keep the focus of the essay narrow and personal. Donât let your voice get lost in the pursuit to impress readers. Instead, write like you speak â" keeping in mind that proper grammar and spelling is still important. If you are having trouble, ask a friend or relative to make a list of your strengths or unique qualities that you plan to read on your own . Ask them to give you examples to back up their impressions (For example, if they say you are âcaring,â ask them to describe an incident they remember in which they perceived you as caring). What is special about the faculty, the courses offered, the placement record, the facilities you might be using? If you canât think of anything particular, read the brochures they offer, go to events, or meet with a faculty member or student in the program. You donât want to be completely straightforward in these cases and appear superficial, but skirting around them or lying can look even worse. Top 36 Admissions Essay Editors
Top 36 Admissions Essay Editors While the authorâs words may be constant, the reader is the true variable. When you have more than one reader together, you have each dimension they bring to the book . I canât say that any one of these factors stands out as a single attraction of St. Johnâs. Rather, itâs the combination of them all that makes St. Johnâs such a uniquely appealing college. Trying to single out any one appealing aspect of St. Johnâs is, for me, like trying to pick a favorite piece in a jigsaw puzzle. On a philosophical basis, I chafe against the competitive, individualistic approach to learning that these desks represent. On a physical basis, at six-foot-two, I can barely fit behind them. St. Johnâs college not only interests me, but draws me in very strongly because it combines in the most natural way, the study of politics and philosophy. Although there are no majors or concentrations in St. Johnâs, I feel that the Great Books curriculum was created to perfectly suit my interestsâ"approaching the social sciences with a philosophical lens. We visited three academic buildings that afternoon. Almost without exception, every room we peeked into was packed with those little chairs that Will Ferrell squeezes himself into in Elf, the ones with the little writing shelf attached. Sometimes pieces of thought which seem to be completely irrelevant to one another, before I know become connected and make one amazing, completed puzzle of my own making. These unexpected enlightenments, which I call my âAh-haâ moments, give me butterflies and make my heart flutter. These moments mean so much more to me than memorizing other peopleâs ideas for exam results. Therefore, the âAh-haâ moment that gets me excited cannot be overridden by artificial number in my report which my school thinks is so important. When a book is read, a bond forms between author and reader. The author speaks, and the reader listens as they weave together the holes the author leaves them to fill. I sat down at the plastic picnic table and breathed in the crisp morning air. I watched the sienna hills tinged with gold in the east as the sun slowly revealed itself. I was never able to portray the view quite as I saw it. Once Iâd calmed down a little, I decided to prioritize the readings required for the class. Almost every morning I visited the campus bookstore. I bought a copy of James Joyceâs Dubliners, which I managed to snag some downtime to read. I took far too many photographs of the displays in the New Mexico History Museum, and I brought home a beautiful little red rock from the hike we took nearby. I recall my afternoon arrival at St. Johnâs in a blur of adobe buildings, warm placita bricks, and inviting, clean sheets. The next morning, when I woke up, I walked out onto the balcony of the second floor of the Murchison dormitory. When a student in a sophomore music theory class wanted to ask a classmate a question about the rhythm of a jazz solo, she did, without fear that asking the question would make her seem unintelligent. Everyone in the classes spoke, not to the professor for the sake of a grade, but to each other for the sake of the exercise. On a Saturday halfway into my first semester at Smith, my friend and I went in search of a study room. Some pieces might be more aesthetically pleasing than others, but none of them can compare to the whole picture. However, the classes were the part of the Summer Academy that stuck with me the most. Alfred Prufrockâ and learned ancient history from the ancients themselves, we pursued an underlying philosophical thread, examining our readings through the lens of courage. I still have the battered schedule, which I kept in my pocket. Not more than two years later my literature teacher gave me as an extra reading the book Sophieâs World by Jostein Gaarder. The book accomplished its objective and, with ease and short chapters of many philosophers, introduced me to the world of the big questions and the pursuit of truth. At some point, after reading it, I felt like Sophie as I wondered about my beliefs and values and about the world. I downloaded the rest of the course selections and printed them out. In the weeks leading up to my departure, I trekked to the nearby field with my dog and my books, and I sat at the picnic table overlooking the woods. I dove into Aristotle and Thucydides while my dog investigated the nearby smells. Every evening, I ticked off the days on the calendar, counting down to the day I would fly from Michigan to Santa Fe. As a result, my grades suffered and Iâve spent most of my time in math class frustrated, confused, and upset.

Six years after she fled from Moldova to Cuba, she and my father headed for the U.S. by raft. My mother left her own family behind, but keeps the door open to those who seek to be a part of ours. Reluctantly, I realized I had to open my own door as well. I heard nothing but the gentle hum of the air conditioner accompanied by the whirring of the electric foot rasp, and the occasional ring of a phone echoing through the hallway of closed doors. My mom had become a therapist attending her clientsâ hands and feet under a white-bulb lamp with watchful eyes and open ears. A man hurrying by bumped into my shoulder as I continued down the street, bringing my mind back to the present. Nobody there knew who I was or cared about my accomplishments. If the essay is too similar to the previous one, you probably wonât ever one of these drafts ,and it will be somewhat a waste of time.

How To Write A Great College Application Essay
How To Write A Great College Application Essay Even colleges who say their essay is âoptional,â you shoulod definitely write one. It can make all the difference in your admission decision. So yes, they are read by all the admissions officers, particularly the ones who oversee your county and region. A strong essay can give you the best chance to get into the school of your dreams. Reading the essays of other students who successfully got into the college of their choice is a good way to find inspiration for your own writing. Look for common patterns in college admission essay samples, such as personal stories and a touch of humor. You might also find some good ideas for structuring your essay to give it a breath of fresh air. Take a minute and think about the college or university admission officers who will be reading your essay. How will your essay convey your background and what makes you unique? If your top activity is swimming, donât write about the big championship meet. Find something else that reveals something new and that shows you put a lot of thought into your essay. If your study of AP biology conflicts with your religious views, write about that and how you reconciled the two. If you had the opportunity to stand in front of an admission committee to share a significant story or important information about yourself, what would you say? The college application essay is your chance to share your personality, goals, influences, challenges, triumphs, life experiences, or lessons learned. Not to mention why you're a good fit for the college or universityâ"and why it's a good fit for you. Many students use this essay to expound upon activities or interests that are already heavily demonstrated in their application through courses, the activity list, and more. Instead of reinforcing a top activity or interest, instead, write about something that reveals another dimension of your life or personality. Don't be afraid to use a failure in your story; colleges know that students are humans and that failure is a natural part of life. The personal statement is your opportunity to reveal something about yourself that canât be found anywhere else in your application â" use it! You might wonder how a huge school would manage reading thousands of essays, but you can trust that they hire extra staff, if necessary, to make sure the entire application gets a close look. The number of readers depends on how âborderlineâ the applicant is, and the number of applicants being processed. Sharing a personal story that's relevant to the prompt is an excellent way to make your essay stand out from the crowd. You don't have to pick a strictly academic story for your essay; college admissions boards care about your complete persona, not simply your academic history. However, remember that your story exists to serve your prompt; avoid telling a story for its own sake. Leave out elements that aren't relevant to the essay, and resist the urge to include every single juicy detail. When searching for stories from your history, choose incidents that allowed you to learn and grown. These are the stories behind the list of activities and leadership roles on your application. Essays give admission officers real insight into the applicant. Our experienced writers have seen the ways in which admissions essays have changed over the years. We stay abreast of trends in college admissions and pay attention to what universities are looking for in a candidate. In a sea of otherwise identical college applications, your college application essay gives you a chance to show why you deserve a coveted spot at your preferred university. Giving yourself plenty of time, focusing on the specific details of your life, and showcasing your unique personality can help you craft the perfect college application essay.

Undergraduate Admissions
Undergraduate Admissions This is likely a different style of writing than students typically use in their classes. Itâs especially different than the one they have often learned to use in their AP Language and Composition class. For some kids, it can be tough to break away from that. This is why I recommend brainstorming a list of unique, fun facts or thinking about favorite objects. Often, there are anecdotes related to those things that the student can talk about in an essay, which will really give colleges a glimpse of who they are. Thinking about those objects can pave the way for a really interesting essay. The tennis racquet may remind the student of the first racquet they received from their favorite uncle and the fun moments they shared together when the student first learned to serve. Or the garlic press may remind the teen of the time they spent cooking with their grandmother and how it became a family joke that they loved to smush the garlic in it. Thereâs no such thing as the perfect college essay. Just be yourself and write the best way you know how. The essay is one of the few things that youâve got complete control over in the application process, especially by the time youâre in your senior year. I think that this is one of the reasons that rising seniors procrastinate writing their essay. Theyâve likely just finished a academically challenging junior year. Outlining your story is often helpful to writing a successful essay. Having a strong outline ensures a writer creates a central narrative that acts as a beacon to follow throughout the drafting and editing process. There is not necessarily a correct structure, but there are techniques that promote consistency and cohesiveness. The outlining process involves envisioning your story and then framing its structure. My daughter/son just needs to be specific and basically not write a bad essay. This is the magic bullet and everything hinges on it. Parents are often tempted to re-write or edit essays by inserting multi-syllabic words or focusing on the transition from one paragraph to the next. Daylight savings has kicked in and itâs cloudy outside. Maybe Iâm being influenced by what I thought was a riveting World Series, but my answer is to throw an off speed pitch. The truth is that there is never a good time to have this conversation. If you bring it up again, things are going to go south quick. There is never going to be a âright timeâ or âright place.â So instead, Iâm encouraging you to write also. To help you begin YOUR essays, we have developed this guide specifically for writing a compelling Personal Statement. Dig in on these five key steps for essay writing so you can master everything from choosing the right topic to providing polish in your final round of revisions. Pick up a pen and piece of paper and write them a letter. Tell them you are proud of them and concerned because they have worked hard and deserve to put their best foot forward, i.e. you want them to succeed. Let them know you are there to help, but know you wonât be next year when theyâre at school. And then have a glass of wine, go for a walk, i.e. let it go. Now, I understand you can read this one of two ways. It feels more important than the others they have written for an English class grade. college admissions, and I found my notes from the road trip I took with my daughter in 2011, the summer before she applied to college. They are often enigmatic, surprising, or even confusing. For example, check out these 10 opening lines from Stanford admission essays. When youâre writing, open up and let your voice come through loud and clear. Be your wonderful, amazing self â" idiosyncrasies, quirks, and all. The more real you are, the more intriguing you will beâ¦and the more the admissions officers will love you.

Buy Admission Essay Online Best Application Essay Service
Buy Admission Essay Online Best Application Essay Service This harsh reality that I saw in the novel impressed me. It has made me notice links between the story and my generation. The description of art under the regime is one of my favorite aspects of the novel. The artistsâ association, MASSOLIT, depicts how artists operated in the Soviet Union. Art is used as a propaganda tool, and the state controls art through bribery. At night, I would draw myself a bath and lay in it until the water went cold and read. Most distinctly I remember running to the bathroom, chapter after chapter, to throw up. It was all at once a beautiful and harrowing experience. Much like an individual doesnât realize how hungry she is until she takes a bite of food, my intellectual hunger rose and demanded that I feast. I began to question the ideas behind my everyday actions regardless of whether other people thought this was a relevant line of inquiry or not. The poemâs lyrical Alexandrines transported me back to Poland, especially when the words were softly murmured, huddled underneath blankets, the pages illuminated with a flickering flashlight. I first began reading Pan Tadeusz when I was thirteen. And perhaps because it was my decision to read this epic, my reaction to it was stronger than it otherwise would have been. Until then, being Polish meant little more to me than having a second passport, wearing a traditional dress on holidays, and having a passel of cousins across the ocean. It impedes creativity and critical thinking, but these are essential in raising questions and seeing beyond the obvious. Instead, my peers choose to follow similar paths of education and career . The obsession with following narrow dreams that I see in my peers is part of todayâs conformism. The drive to conform to a standard so as to avoid standing out has become more and more apparent. However, the society depicted in the novel accepts such conformism to urvive, whereas the young generation can take individual freedom for granted. Out of this confusion and curiosity, my AP Research paper on the nature of open-mindedness as an intellectual virtue in epistemology emerged. Readers at the time of the bookâs publication would have remembered these, their imaginations leaving Paris for the Polish countryside. At an early age they are asked to choose their path for life. Avoiding conformism and pre-set structures lets people see the world in different colors and leads to self-discovery. Maybe there was someone who had successfully revealed the âtruthâ of Lolita in all itâs ugliness, someone who had pushed past all Lolita âs beauty and emerged with a final knowledge of it. It was late December and the snow was gently falling outside. I sat in an armchair in front of a wood fire with a cup of tea and read. I read for hours until my skin stung, my neck stiffened and my head ached. This novel is a clear reminder that people have potential and must not choose an easy path in life. Each individual must pave their own way to achieve true happiness. The novel also addresses conformism and its effects on society. The conformism in the novel is blindly following government orders, not questioning the comical levels of commodity deficits, the lack of freedom of speech, and restrictions on art. The quote from the introduction shows an even bigger tragedy. The words âno documents, no personâ are spoken by Wolandâs right-hand, Koroviev, to Master when he is rescued. Master immediately worries that he will be in trouble if someone finds him with paper proof that he is âsickâ. Documents meant the difference between life and death in Stalinâs regime. Being Polish was a part of me, but not something I paid much attention to. I live in a newly independent society that still has remnants of the old, Soviet conformism, and, instead of freeing itself, it has begun to bury itself in it.

What Colleges Require Admission Essays? And Which Ones Require Supplemental Essays?
What Colleges Require Admission Essays? And Which Ones Require Supplemental Essays? On August 30th, 2018 my mom passed away unexpectedly. My favorite person, the one who helped me become the man I am today, ripped away from me, leaving a giant hole in my heart and in my life. Godiva Company Recommendations to Improve the Marketing Plan - 825 Words
Godiva Company: Recommendations to Improve the Marketing Plan (Research Paper Sample) Content: Godiva Company: Recommendations to Improve the Marketing Plan Student Name Institution Date Table of ContentsIntroduction3Improving Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning3Recommendations for the Marketing Mix4Conclusion5Reference List7 Introduction Godiva Company adopted a new strategy that targeted to encourage consumers to purchase more of its products. This is after customers showed change in their purchasing behaviour as they shied from luxurious and expensive products. The decision to change its approach on how to win over consumers provided the company with a reliable competitive advantage. This research provides recommendations on segmentation, targeting and position strategies, and marketing mix strategies. These are of significance in improving the marketing plan and increasing sales in the Singapore Market. Improving Product Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning According to Malhotra (2013), segmentation, targeting and positioning strategies can be used to improve products or services and increase sales. In the initial stages, Godiva Company opted for the luxury products consumer segment in the Singapore market. However, only a small consumer group could afford such high prices. Since majority consumers favored low priced chocolates it became challenging for Godiva to compete against other companies such as Nestle Company (Holmes, 2011). To overcome the competitive pressure, Godiva sought an undifferentiated strategy that fit the low earning consumers. Dibb and Simkin (2013) explain the undifferentiated strategy is critical in targeting customers as most consumers are moved by low prices while making purchasing decisions. Godivaà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s decision to produce an affordable product was effective in seeking to keep its consumers loyal to the brand. However, the company should make more efforts to be consumer intimate where they serve specific needs of their customers. For example, Godiva introduced the premium chocolate to encourage casual purchasing. As global economic conditions changed, price seemed to be the most significant element in customersà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢ decision making in the Singapore and global market. As the company introduces drug stores and grocery supplies, it will be more effective to expand into other territories such as online services, targeting a broader customer base. Recommendations for the Marketing Mix Amstrong et al. (2014) claim a marketing mix defines a companyà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s marketing options in regards to the product, price, place and promotion. It assists a company develop a product that meets the needs of given consumers, directs the company on a suitable place to target the customers, the best price to offer and how to promote successfully (Amstrong et al., 2014). The basic idea behind a product is a customerà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s expectations. For instance, Godiva noticed customers purchased its chocolates only on special occasions due to their packaging and pricing. Although, customers preferred competitor products, which were less costly, these products failed to meet their expectations. The company introduced the Godiva gems to give quality to consumers at affordable prices and increase sales. The packaging was also made more attractive and offers customers a variety of colours and flavours. Most customers prefer purchasing products within their reach (Amstrong et al., 2014). Initially, Godiva Company supplied its products only in malls limiting the reach of many customers. Expanding supplies to drug stores and grocery stores presents an advantage to the company. However, it would be more effective to present products in kiosks and even school stores; simply any place that potential consumers could be accessed. It is good to notice the company also offers online purchases to reach a broader consumer base. Customers opted for competitor products since they were within their reach and could meet their demands at any time. In this case, Godiva should expand more not giving the customer the chance to opt for anything else. Presenting a worthy product at the suitable place is only part of a customerà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s decision making journey. A large number of customers make their final decisionà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s basing on price (Varey, 2012). As observed, customers moved to substitute products as the lesser prices offered were to their advantage. However, noting how some customers still preferred Godiva products to the lower end brands, it shows offering them slightly cheaper products of good quality would maintain their loyalty. According to Zwick (2008), promotion is a critical step...

Does Democracy Ensure Freedom - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1410 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2018/12/28 Category Politics Essay Type Assignment Level High school Tags: Freedom Essay Government Essay Did you like this example? Most of us at one point in life we might have asked our self, does democracy ensure our freedom? According to me, democracy ensures freedom, however, it does not always ensure freedom. Democracy is a type governance where the supreme power established by people for them is controlled by then indirectly with the use of representatives. According to Abraham Lincoln, democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Does Democracy Ensure Freedom?" essay for you Create order (Buccola, 9) Thus democratic nation sums up all their supreme powers and vests them the people they elect to represent them. On the other hand, freedom can be defined as the state of being free to do anything that you want. Additionally, in democratic countries, freedom is a political right. This paper will discuss broadly if really democracy ensures freedom? Democracy is made up of two main principles which are equality and freedom. Hence, in democratic nations, their citizens are viewed as all equal before the law, and thus they all have a similar approach to the supreme powers of the country (Miller78, 447). The principle of freedom assures all certain legitimized freedom and liberty in democracy, which is mainly protected by the countrys constitution. Freedom is also classified into two main concepts, which are negative freedom and positive freedom. In Positive freedom is the freedom to do anything apart from the freedom of interfering. While the negative freedom comprises of all options of all freedoms which are open to a person or a group people in general which interferes with the freedom of others(Arendt, 33). In defining democracy, the most essential element is self-rule. The term democracy is made of two Greek words that are demos and Kratos, which mean people rule. This element of democracy is a very the fundamental concept of democracy since it secures the rights and freedom of people being governed. In a democratic of government people are sovereign, and thus they are the highest system of political authority (Hayward, 269). From this, we see that its citizens people must fully accept all the decisions created by the government. For instance, during elections period, all political candidates are given a chance to campaign freely so that can share their ideologies and policies with the voters allowing the voters to scrutinize every candidates ideas. According to Lewis, consent is an essential element in a democratic nation. However, its not a different component. The most significant thing is not whether a large population of the voting population agrees or approves the government and their policies, but its the manner in which the consent is secured. Having the power to vote for someone to represent you in making laws is freedom (Miller78, 447). This is because it likes you are employing somebody to work for you, and he or she fails you replace them with another. The ultimate goal of every government is to govern its people for their betterment. Thus most government today use democracy since it reflects the need for this form of government which allows the voice of its citizens to be heard through the elected representative. Since every voters vote count and the majority votes trumps. The elected legislators later go to legislate laws and regulations which resolves the issue affecting populations. This provides the citizens with a fair access to the legislative process and equality before constitution making sure that the population is protected because they pass the laws and for them to protect their rights and freedoms (Hayward, 270). Hence it is essential for all elected legislators at all levels of government be it national or local level; they should listen to the voice of the people and respond quickly to their needs because the taxpayer employs them. Another importance of democracy in providing freedom is the presence of a variety of political parties which represent different ideologies and policies to the people. In a democracy political parties are very strong and very active, hence playing a major role in the national political arena of the country. These parties also give the citizens a chance to exercise their freedom of speech and association. Additionally, the opposition party also helps to supervise the government, thus keeping the government on toes making them deliver to their citizens. Multiple parties also help in the protection of the human rights by upholding the dignity of all citizens and ensuring that all their voices even the weakest citizen is heard (Hayward, 270). Democracy ensures freedom for the people because for a county to be democratic, all its citizens must have the freedom to decide whether they will take part in the political activities and hand over the power of legislation to a group of people or a person who is more qualified in making laws and solving serious political issues, like an elected legislator. According to scholars, democracy is a type of government which depends on the constitution of a country. In the most nation, this constitution treats all people equally no matter their differences in culture, ethnicity or race. Thus everybody will participate in the process of legislation by electing representatives who will act on their constituents interest and address the issues affecting them. Protecting peoples freedom properly by using legislation means people freedom will be ensured (Blais, 86). However, a democratic type of government favors the majority making the elected representative cater for the issues of the majority so that he can secure votes to maintain his seat and power. This makes the representative forget the minority hence no one will solve the problems facing them, and their voices wont be had. As a result, the minority will lose their freedom since the elected official will no longer hear their voices because he is busy appeasing the majority. Consequently, d emocratic type of government rewards politicians with the excess power which they use for self-benefit forgetting the common citizen. Unfortunately, not all elected officials are always a reflected desire of the whole population. According to Dunn, democracy is not just the rule of the majority. Democracy is not also the right for anyone acts in whatever way they feel like with a callous disregard of other people. Consequently, democracy believes in the value and the opinion of every citizen thus it gives every citizen one vote so that we can all be equal. Even though its the majority ruling, important foundations of democracy believe that everybody is equal and they should be treated equally even the individual who is a minority member. The ultimate goal of every democratic government is to govern its people for their betterment. Thus most government today use democracy since it reflects the need for this form of government which allows the voice of its citizens to be heard through the elected representative. Because of every vote counts and the majority vote trumps. The elected legislators later go to legislate laws and regulations which resolves the issue affecting populations (Blais, 86). This makes the citizens have fair access to the legislative process and equality before constitution making sure that the population is protected because they pass the laws and for them to protect their rights and freedoms. In conclusion, I do believe that democracy type of government ensures freedom for all. This is because the option and the will of the people are what matters in this type of government, since people have full control of their rights and freedoms. Democracy cannot be classified as the best type of governance because it has some disadvantages. However, its the best option as compared to other types of government. This has made most countries in the world to adopt this types even though there is still some nation still using the traditional types of government. Democracy is better than this form of government since it aims at making everybody equal and striking balance in governing people thus allowing people to make their own rules. Democracy has ensured we have freedom through its core values which are freedom, fraternity, equality, accommodation of diversity and ensuring that justice supports all the human rights and freedoms as well. Paper on Epigenetics - 1034 Words
Epigenetics: interaction of DNA methylation and chromatin Epigenetics is a field where advances are being made daily. Epigenetics is defined as ââ¬Å"heritable changes in gene expression that occur without a change in DNA sequence,â⬠as stated by Dr. Alan Wolffe. A way in which we can understand this definition is by taking the analogy of a card game. The cards, the DNA sequence, have been dealt and will not change, however we need to understand how to play the cards, the rules, which is epigenetics. The guidelines can vary and completely change the way the card game is played and who comes out on top. The rules that are studied and understood through this research paper are those of DNA methylation and chromatin. These changes can produceâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦So how is DNA methylated? Methylation takes place at the 5ââ¬â¢ C and 3ââ¬â¢G base pair. More specifically at the cytosine carbon and the same in the complimentary strand to this. This is not only done at a few sites, rather about 60-90% of these carbons are methylated! An area that is highly methylated will actually help to repress gene expression if it is methylated at CpG island sites, where transcription beings. DNA methylation can also result in inactivation of tumor suppression in cancer cells when it becomes abnormal, due to this, epigenetics becomes a strong focus point when studying cancer. Also this leads to the cytosineââ¬â¢s being replaced by a thymine, leaving behind a dangerous T-G pairing which will be inherited and passed down through laterdivision. Another way this epigenetic phenomenon is benefitted from is its use in gene therapy. When foreign genes are used into a new host, they are methylated and thus suppressed as a ââ¬Å"host defense mechanism.â⬠There are actually enzymes involved in the methylation, they are called, as one may be able to guess, DNA methyltransferases. There are two kinds of this enzyme the DNMT1 (maintenance) and de novo methylase. It has generally been accepted thatRead MoreLocal Chromatin Environment Of A Polycomb Target Gene Instructs Its Own Epigenetic Inheritance889 Words à |à 4 PagesThe main question being addressed in ââ¬Å"Local chromatin environment of a Polycomb target gene instructs its own epigenetic inheritanceâ⬠is whether histones modified by Polycomb Repressive Complex 2 (PRC2) are inherited through memory stored locally in gene expression sites (cis memory) or by concentrations of diffusible factors at chromatin states (trans memory). Mutation assays involving nickel exposer to species ranging from Salmonella to mammalian cells, in vitro, have shown that nickel has low mutagenic activity. Epigenetic changes alter the physical structure of DNA. Epigenetic literally means on top of genetics, it refers to external modifications to DNA that turn genes on or off. These modifications do not change the DNA sequence, but instead, they affect how cells read genes. One example of an epigenetic change is DNA methylation, which adds a chemical cap, to part of the DNA molecule, which
Richard The Lion Hearted Essay Paper Example For Students
Richard The Lion Hearted Essay Paper Greek Mythology played a very key role in the lives of the Greeks. Through the many legends about the gods, the Greeks were able to find reasons for all the laws of nature in a supernatural form. These legends were passed down from generation to generation until the spread of Christianity. On top of giving the Greeks reasons for natures action, their religion also gave them a faith that thing were going to be okay, which is something that all humans crave. The Greeks had 13 major gods. They often used these gods in their myths and prayed to them for particular needs. The head of the gods was Zeus who was also the god of the sky. Whenever Zeus spoke, he was listened to and his word was always final. Zeus had two brothers, Poseidon and Hades. The three brothers drew straws to decide who would control the skies, who would control the seas, and who would control the underworld. Zeus gained control over the skies and became king of the gods. Zeus used his mighty thunderbolts to punish all those who disobeyed him. Zeus married Hera, making her the queen of the gods. The sky god was extremely unfaithful to his wife and slept with women from queens all the way down to peasants. Since Zeus was king of the gods Hera could rarely force Zeus to do any penance, so she took out her wrath on the women Zeus slept with. Zeuss symbols were thunderbolts and eagles. When the three brothers drew straws to determine what area they would control Poseidon got the sea. His wife was Amphritrite who was a Nereid. Like Zeus, Poseidon was not very faithful to his spouse and had many affairs with the nymphs. Poseidon fathered several children who were extremely cruel and wild. Among his children were Orion the giant and the Polyphemus Cyclops. In art, Poseidon is generally featured holding a trident and accompanied by a dolphin. Also, Poseidon was said to have created many animals. He accidentally created such animals as the zebras while perfecting the horse. Hades was the god of the dead. When he and his three brothers divided up the universe, he ended up with the underworld. Hades rarely came out of the underworld to Mount Olympus, the place where the gods resided, because he was not welcome there. Persephone, whom Hades had abducted in order to get her to the underworld, was Hades queen. Hades was a pitiless god who never paid attention to prayer or sacrifice. But Hades was not an evil god. He was often referred to as the Lord of the riches because his kingdom was believed to be the reason for precious metals and crops. Hades wore a helmet and a cape that made him invisible. Hera was the queen of the gods. She was both the wife and sister of Zeus. Hera was a jealous goddess who never forgot an injury and always remembered to retaliate at the source of the injury with vengeance. She was the mother of Ares, Hebe, and Hephaestus. Hera was extremely displeased at the way that Zeus often treated children. Hera was the protector of marriage, married women, and children. Many people think that Hera was an ugly god that had no life outside of harassing here husband about his other relationships, because she was always after Zeuss mortal partners, but this is not true for she was thought to be one of the most beautiful gods, and many god were attracted to her. Demeter was the goddess of harvest. When her daughter, Persephone, was abducted to the underworld, Demeter became depressed. As a result Demeter produced no harvest and caused a famine. Zeus had to step in to correct the situation. Zeus ordered Hades to allow Persephone to be released. Hades obeyed his brother but before he let Persephone go, he forced her to eat pomegranate seeds that would cause her to come back to him for four months each year. So during the months Demeter was with her daughter she produced great crops; during the months Hades was with Persephone there was only death among the crops. Hestia was the goddess of the hearth and everyday life. She was also Zeuss sister. Most Greek people prayed to Hestia each day. In most homes there was a hearth that was not ever allowed to be put out because the fire was devoted to Hestia. These fires that burned in everyones home created a unity between the people. Ares was the son of Zeus through Hera and was perhaps the only son they had together. Both Zeus and Hera hated their son. Ares was the combat part of war. Ares is often looked on as an inspiration for people fighting for their life with odds heavily against them. The vulture and dog were the two animals associated with Ares. Both describe his character extremely well. Athena or Athene was the goddess of wisdom and the other god of war. Role as a war god was to give strategies guidance and wisdom to the warriors. She was Zeuss daughter and had no mother because Zeus had created her from the earth. Athena is often called gray-eyed because of her deep colored eyes. She was by far the favorite child of. Zeus even let her carry his aegis and use his thunderbolts. Sh e created the olive tree, which became known as her tree. The owl was her bird because they both were thought to have great wisdom. Cecrops was the king of Attica and had plans to build a magnificent city. The gods saw the plans for the building of this city and were greatly interested. The gods foresaw that this city would become a great city, so they had a dispute over which god should be the citys patron. After a many long arguments, it became obvious that either Athena or Poseidon would be the citys patron. A contest was held to end the dispute in which both Athena and Poseidon would give a gift to the city. Whoevers gift was greater would become the patron of the city. Poseidon created a four-mile salt spring that extended to the city and promised a might navy and great trading vessels. Then gray-eyed Athena planted a small bush that was laughed at by many. She said that it was the olive bush and poor men could flavor their bread and milk, and rich men could feast on oil create d from these olives bushes. Many gifts of this oil would be used as a sacrifice to the gods. The judges were so pleased with the olive that they declared the city Athens and built a huge temple in honor of the citys new patron Athena. Apollo was the son of Zeus through Leto. Many of the gods loved Apollo because he displayed his great musical talents before them. He was the god of healing and archery. It was said that when a mortal got sick it was because Apollo had shot him with one of his arrows. When a mortal healed it was credited to Apollo because he had first taught man how to heal. Apollo was also the god of light (not sun) and truth since he never told a lie. The animals sacred to him were the crow and dolphin. Artemis was the twin sister of Apollo and daughter of Zeus. She was like an untamed animal that loved to hunt. Artemis was the goddess of wild women, the moon, and untamed animals. Artemis was the protector (along with Hera) and the hunter of the gods. She seemed to a lmost have a split personality because at times she could be the most gentle and loving of the gods, usually when she was around children, and at other times she was the most ferocious and angry of all the gods, often when someone killed an animal on her sacred grounds. The deer was the animal most loved by Artemis. It is unsure whether Aphrodite is another daughter of Zeus or born from the sea. Most stories state that she was born from the sea. Aphrodite was the goddess of beauty and love because she was by far the most beautiful of all the gods. She was in the love triangle between her lame husband Hephaestus and Ares the god of war. The swan and dove were two of the birds sacred to her. Maia was the son of Atlas and a nymph. The son of Zeus and Maia was Hermes. Hermes was the messenger god and ended up in most all tales of mythology. Hermes ran messages for all the gods, but mainly for Zeus. Hermes was the god of trade and commerce. He was also a master thief and protector of tra ders. Hermes stole Apollos herds when he was a day old, but earned his forgiveness by giving Apollo the lyre he had just made. During Hermes last message he was led to the underworld by Hades where he had to stay for eternity much to most of the gods displeasure. Through these gods and the legends surrounding the gods, the Greeks found reasons for everything they did. They were also always able to find a god to motivate them to continue through the day and to use as inspiration. Even though the gods would eventually be nearly forgotten after the spread of Christianity, they would be studied for generations to follow. .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac , .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .postImageUrl , .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac , .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac:hover , .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac:visited , .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac:active { border:0!important; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac:active , .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3dee00afa9827b958fe936b3831cb1ac:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Most Beautiful Girl in the World Essay End NotesHistory Essays
